Friday and Saturday nights, this place is a zoo. When the bars close, Tahou's is the place to go. Sometimes, it's hard to even get inside -- who needs that? No, we prefer Sunday mornings, when Nick's there to greet you, and they can spare the time and attention that any great Plate deserves.
Nick's has a menu, but there's no need really. What you want is a cheeseburger - plate - macaroni - everything. And a Pepsi. Not a big meat-eater? That's okay, the grilled cheese plate is excellent.
Ah, breakfast is served. Plate, Pepsi, a couple of slices of Tahou's own italian bread, no better way to start the day. Maybe you'd like to take a closer look at this work of art.
Ah, enjoy...tabasco and ketchup are common plate condiments, some like to add a little A1.

When you're done, Nick may just have a seat and share some of his years of experience with you. He's got a million of 'em, but there's a couple of favorites:

Before we got married, my wife...she thought I was a greek god. You know what she thinks now? Now she thinks I'm a goddamn greek.

You know, for sixty years I worked behind the counter, customers always bothering me. No mustard, extra sauce, gimme this, gimme that, always, customers bothering me. So finally I say, that's it! I'm done! So I retired. You know what I do now? Now I come in and bother the customers!

Do you know me? Don't tell anybody.

Satisfied. Time to relax and enjoy the Sunday.

In the course of our travels, on the internet and across the real world, no matter where we end up, we always seem to run into someone who knows about Nick Tahou's. And of course, everyone's got a story.

Ok, enough. These pictures are driving me crazy, I'm going to get a plate!

In January 1996, Nick Tahou passed away after being ill for some time. Jason felt it necessary to say a few words on behalf of all of us at Argyle Street, which we hope you will take a moment to read.

Nick's son, Alex, has actually been running the place for quite a while now, and continues to do so most ably, making a good thing even better. Stop by sometime and see for yourself, there's a pretty good chance you'll find us there.

Scott Stelick of Cornell University has compiled a dietary analysis of the Garbage Plate. This shouldn't be news to anyone.

EmilyBellbottoms sent along her ideas on how to take Nick's home, when home is a long, long way from Nick's.
